Dear Centreville/Newburgh families,

It is with a heavy heart and a mix of emotions that I write to you today to let you know that I will be leaving Centreville and Newburgh Public Schools on June 24th, 2021 at the end of this school year.

It has truly been my honour and privilege to serve as Principal of these two community schools for the past seven years and to collaborate alongside an incredible school team to guide your children as they have worked towards achieving their goals and dreams. Centreville and Newburgh are incredibly distinctive schools supported by strong, vibrant and committed communities who work diligently to ensure that all our students have, at their disposal, every tool and resource required for success. I am very proud of the work that we have accomplished together to develop and enhance literacy and numeracy instruction, improve the use of technology to augment learning outcomes, meet the needs of our exceptional students and develop the context and conversations necessary to focus on issues related to equity, belonging and inclusion. I am also elated about the completed and ongoing improvements that we have made and will continue to make to our physical buildings and school sites. I feel very fortunate to have become a part of these exceptional communities and will always cherish the memories of the time that I have spent here.

At the end of June, I will begin a new adventure with the Ministry of Education as the Principal of Sagonaska, one of Ontario’s Provincial Demonstration Schools. This secondment, which will temporarily take me away from Limestone District School Board, is a career move that I have aspired to for a number of years, and I am excited about this unique opportunity.

It gives me great pleasure to introduce the incoming Principal of Centreville and Newburgh Public Schools, Mr. Peter Mouncey!

P. Mouncey
Mr. Mouncey is excited about his upcoming move to Centreville/Newburgh Public Schools in September 2021. He has worked in education for nearly 30 years. He began teaching overseas in Hong Kong and Mexico and returned to Canada to teach at a small private school in Ottawa before joining the Limestone District School Board as a Vice-Principal in 2000. He has been a Limestone Principal for nearly 20 years at Selby PS, First Avenue/Marysville PS's, Westdale Park PS, Southview PS, Winston Churchill PS and most recently for five years at Prince Charles PS in Verona. He loves the rural nature of Eastern Ontario and looks forward to meeting the students and parents of Newburgh and Centreville.

Congratulations, Mr. Mouncey! You are going to love your time with the Newburgh/Centreville communities!

In the meantime, I hope to touch base with as many of you as possible over the next six weeks! Until then, please take good care of yourselves and stay safe!

All my very best always,

John Ricci

Principal, Centreville/Newburgh Public Schools
