There are few events during the academic year that are more exciting than the first day of school. Children and adults alike, eagerly anticipate the chance to catch up with old friends that they have not seen in a while and look forward to the prospect of meeting some wonderful new peers. All of us at Centreville Public School would like to take this opportunity to welcome back all returning students and their families for the 2018-2019 school year. We would also like to extend a very special and warm greeting to all students and families who are new to Centreville PS. Our school community is proud of its safe, supportive and inclusive atmosphere and we know that you are going to love it here. If there is anything we can do to help with your transition, please do not hesitate to ask!

We would also like to welcome back and offer a huge “thank you” to all staff! As usual every member of our team has put in an incredible effort to be ready for the first day of school. Thank you to the teachers for creating responsive and welcoming environments especially under unusual conditions. A special thank you to Mrs. Greenslade for keeping us incredibly organized and to Mr. Burtch and Mrs. Thompson for working all summer to prepare the school! We would like to introduce and offer a special greeting to the newest member of Centreville’s Educational Team Ms. Metzger, who will be teaching a part of the day in the Grade 3/4 classroom, working with our youngest children from JK/SK and supporting in Grade 1/2. Welcome, Ms. Metzger! When you are at the school, please take the opportunity to speak with or introduce yourself to all new and returning members of staff.

Children learn best when the significant adults in their lives -- parents, guardians, teachers, and other family and community members -- work together to encourage and support them. When parents and guardians become involved in the life of the school, they make our schools better places to learn, grow and thrive. Please consider joining our school as a volunteer as our students will greatly benefit from your involvement and contributions. We are always seeking volunteers to:

· Support instruction in the classroom under the direction of the teacher

· Read with children, especially those who could use a little extra help

· Assist with special school events or field trips

· Join the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)

If you are interested in supporting the school and the learning of our students, please contact the school or speak with your child’s teacher.

We love the commencement of the school year because it offers everyone a fresh start…a new beginning. In the first few days of school, many of us love to reminisce and talk about where we have been. We would like to propose that perhaps it is an even better time to think about where we are going. Please take an opportunity to sit with your child(ren) and set some challenging goals for the coming school year. Encourage your child to speak to their teacher about their goals and targets for success. Together, we can make their dreams come true!

Yours in Education,

Mr. J. Ricci
