<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Principal's Update</h2> Dear Families,Last week we recognized Bullying Awareness and Prevention week and Limestone DSB recognized Friday, November 21, as a district-wide Pink Shirt Day. Throughout the week, we had many pink hearts put up on classroom doors recognizing acts of kindness. It was such a success that we have decided to continue for the rest of November!! Let's see how 'pink' we can get the halls of Centreville as we continue to choose kindness.We are thrilled to announce that our school has been chosen to participate in the Words Matter Campaign this year! This year-long initiative is designed to reduce the incidence and impact of harmful and discriminatory language in our school community. Our goal is to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone and gain tools to support your children in using words that uplift and empower.The Words Matter Project seeks to address the nuances of language that can perpetuate harm, bias, and discrimination. By fostering open dialogue and education about the power of words, we aim to create a culture of mindful communication. This campaign will involve not just students and staff but also parents and caregivers, emphasizing the crucial role that families play in promoting respectful interactions. Look for information to be sent in our newsletters bi-weekly.Finally, Centreville is excited for the holiday season, and we are looking forward to a month of festive activities. We are happy to bring back Holiday BINGO on December 11th, and festive Fridays throughout December. To help us better understand how students’ identities and experiences relate to their achievement and well-being, we are launching our second See Yourself in Limestone Student Census Survey this fall.The census is a voluntary and confidential survey for students in Grades 4 to 12, running from November 24 to 28, 2025. It gathers information about students’ identities and their experiences at school. No weapons will be carried, but military members will be in uniform and wearing military equipment.To provide some additional context, the course overall is designed to enable participants to conduct a civil assessment of a local community, and meet with local municipal leaders to coordinate civilian and military resources in support of a large population of civilians evacuating a disaster.The purpose of the exercise is to train military students on the type of planning and assessments that need to occur if a disaster in a nearby community required mass evacuation. Specifically, their goal is to assess the degree of support that these communities could provide to temporarily house and care for people fleeing the disaster. The Exemption from Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction, Grades 1 to 8 Procedure (the “Procedure”) was developed in response to the Ontario Ministry of Education’s Policy/Program Memorandum (PPM) No. 162 which requires school boards to develop a procedure that allows for students to be exempted, at the request of their parents/guardians, from instruction related to the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations found in Strand D of the Ontario Curriculum: Health and Physical Education, Grades 1-8, 2019 (the “Curriculum”). These need to be updated and returned as soon as possible.If you are new to the school, or do not receive the package, to help us gather important medical information about your child, we ask that you select the correct Plan of Care form from the link below, complete it and return it to the school as soon as possible. You may request a printed copy as well. These visits involve hands-on/minds-on activities that foster problem solving, teamwork, and innovation. On November 12, there will be a school-wide School Bus Safety Presentation in the gym to teach about bus safety. On November 28, our student will be immersed in an interactive concert featuring Taiko-Japanese Drummers, showcasing a high energy style of drumming that is sure to leave a lasting impression. November 17-21 is Bullying Awareness and Prevention week and Limestone DSB will recognize Friday, November 21, as a district-wide Pink Shirt Day.  Please consider wearing a Pink Shirt to school in support of kindness. Throughout the week, pink hearts will be distributed to classrooms and available at the front office for students and families to consider recognizing acts of kindness. These will be posted in our walls for display. We encourage students to show their Halloween spirit by wearing Black and Orange this week. Please leave all costumes and costume pieces at home to ensure students have everything they need for the big night. We have had a few requests for class treats to be brought to school. While we appreciate the generosity, we are encouraging additional class treats to stay at home. We will still be celebrating in fun and festive ways through activities and themed learning. Any class treats that do come to school must be pre-packaged and nut free. ***Congratulations to our cross-country runners who represented Centreville very well at our regional and district meets. We are proud of you!!***Last week, some families received Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). IEPs looked a little different this year. LDSB is now using the Aspen IEP platform. Although the content of your student's IEP remains the same, you may have noticed the layout may appear different. IEPs are working documents and can be edited, revised, and updated as needed. Whenever we make revisions, your family will be notified and consulted. Please check our school calendar on the website for dates.Centreville students have a few guest presenters scheduled in the coming month. Throughout November, Let's Talk Science presentations will take place in various classrooms, to facilitate curriculum-aligned Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) workshops. These visits involve hands-on/minds-on activities that foster problem solving, teamwork, and innovation. On November 12, there will be a school-wide School Bus Safety Presentation in the gym to teach about bus safety. On November 28, our student will be immersed in an interactive concert featuring Taiko-Japanese Drummers, showcasing a high energy style of drumming that is sure to leave a lasting impression. As we prepare for the coming winter months, please make sure that students are dressing for cold, wet weather and please take note of protocols for bus cancellations due to inclement weather. A few reminders:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">When buses are cancelled in the morning, schools remain open in LDSB and students can be driven to school. Buses will not run at the end of the day. You must arrange for end of day transportation at dismissal time (3:30 pm).</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">If your child is absent on an inclement weather day due to a bus cancellation, please report their absence using the SafeArrival App </li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Students who are being dropped off should arrive no earlier than 8:45 am or as close to 9:00 as possible. In the case of harsh weather conditions on the yard, staff will help students to report directly to their classrooms.</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">As the weather continues to get colder, please ensure students have extra warm gear with them each day. </li></ul>Classes continue to go outside for additional learning most days. Some Physical Education classes are outdoors, and classes try to spend some extra learning time outside. On rainy days students will be outside , unless it is raining hard or there is lightning and thunder. It is a time for reflection, gratitude, and learning, as we remember the individuals who gave so much so that we may live in peace. Our ceremony will commence at approximately 10:55 and should last approximately 20 minutes. To help us better understand how students’ identities and experiences relate to their achievement and well-being, we are launching our second See Yourself in Limestone Student Census Survey this fall.The census is a voluntary and confidential survey for students in Grades 4 to 12, running from November 24 to 28, 2025. It gathers information about students’ identities and their experiences at school. We planted 6 Red Maples on our yard leaving a legacy for our graduating Grade 8's and a chance for our Kindergartens to watch the trees grow through their years at Centreville PS.  This fun, hands-on activity is the first part of our “Kids, Trees, and Communities” initiative — a chance for students to learn about taking care of trees, the environment, and how small community efforts can make a big difference for our planet.As these trees grow, they’ll help offset our school’s carbon footprint by 2030 — a wonderful step toward a greener future!We invite you to continue the planting!  We’re asking families to purchase additional saplings for $3 through their School Day accounts to plant in our larger Centreville Community.  The money raised through the purchase of saplings will help cover the cost of the large maple trees planted on our school yard. Limestone District School Board Chair and Vice-Chair Elected for 2025-2026

<img src="/images/3b73f535-6db0-57a4-bb4f-a5bb6232f53e" alt="" width="349" height="452" style="width:349px;height:452px;display:inline-block"> <img src="/images/02ea62dd-f2f2-5bdf-8bf4-95704c83d5d1" alt="" width="349" height="452" style="width:349px;height:452px;display:inline-block">Chair Karen McGregor (left) and Vice-Chair Tiffany Lloyd Limestone District School Board (LDSB) Chair Karen McGregor was re-elected to the role, and Trustee Tiffany Lloyd was elected to Vice-Chair at the Annual Meeting of the Board November 19, 2025. Trustees elect a Chair and Vice-Chair each year of their four-year mandate. Chair McGregor, who has been Chair since June 2025, represents LDSB schools in the Townships of Central Frontenac, Addington Highlands, and North Frontenac.  “Trustees play a critical role as a bridge between the communities we serve and the Board, ensuring that families have a direct channel to raise local concerns, seek guidance and influence decisions that affect their children's education,” says Chair McGregor. “I am honoured to be re-elected as Chair for the coming year, to work with a Board of Trustees determined to make a positive difference in the lives of every student in our district.” Vice-Chair Lloyd represents LDSB schools in the Town of Greater Napanee. "I’m honoured to serve as Vice-Chair, and I’m grateful for my colleagues’ confidence,” says Vice-Chair Lloyd. “I look forward to working together as we support our schools, listen to our communities, and make decisions that truly benefit the students and families we serve." Trustees will be selecting the committees they wish to serve on next week at the Nominations Committee Meeting Monday, November 24, 2025.

Choices at 7 Program Information

The Limestone District School Board's Choices at 7 programs offer opportunities for students entering Grade 7 to participate in a variety of unique learning environments. Depending on the availability of places in the programs, students currently in Grade 7 may also apply to join a program for their Grade 8 year. The Choices at 7 programs that are offered include: <ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">ATLAS (Applying Technology for Learning, Aptitude, and Success) </li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Challenge (Gifted and Academic Enrichment Program) </li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">LEAP (Limestone Education through the Arts Program) </li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Extended French Immersion Program (for students entering Grade 7 only)</li></ul>If you are interested in finding out more about these programs, you are invited to attend the information nights that are being held at each site (dates and times are listed below). Student Census Survey Opt-Out Deadline Extended

If you wish to opt your student(s) out, please contact your school principal.
