June is a great time to celebrate all of the learning and successes of the year, and start to look back on how much our students have grown. Our staff are completing June report cards to reflect this growth. These reports will go home with students on Wednesday June 24th.We know that change is the one constant in life and that change often brings growth and new opportunities. As we near the end of the school year there are some staff changes to share with our school community. FAREWELLWe have had some staff who have joined us this year at Centreville PS in a long-term occasional and permanent teaching positions or support staff roles this year. Best wishes to Ms. Fraser, Mrs. Darton, Ms. Nicole and Mrs. Howes, as they move on to their next adventure and thank them for their positive contributions to our school.WELCOMEWe will welcome Ms. Semark to Centreville as well as a new staff member TBD as a planning time teacher. Also, Centreville PS would like to acknowledge the following parent volunteers for all of the "extras" they provide for us: Megan McFarland who is the master of getting school donations and sourced our outside yard equipment for free, Jessie Eamons, who organized our Hot lunches this school year and Karrah Wemp, who always kept our front planter filled and our gardens beautiful. Your time is valuable and we appreciate that you choose to spend some of it on us!Finally, a reminder that June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, an opportunity to learn about the unique cultures, traditions and experiences of First Nations, Inuit and Métis. It's a time to honour the stories, achievements and resilience of Indigenous Peoples, who have lived on this land since time immemorial and whose presence continues to impact the evolving Canada. June also is the month the world celebrates Pride Month, recognizing the 2SLGBTQ+ community and acknowledging the social justice work that still needs to be done. The instructional day will run from 9:10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will include three 100-minute learning blocks, supported by two 40-minute nutrition and outdoor breaks. These need to be updated and returned as soon as possible.If you are new to the school, or do not receive the package, to help us gather important medical information about your child, we ask that you select the correct Plan of Care form from the link below, complete it and return it to the school as soon as possible. You may request a printed copy as well. The Exemption from Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction, Grades 1 to 8 Procedure (the “Procedure”) was developed in response to the Ontario Ministry of Education’s Policy/Program Memorandum (PPM) No. 162 which requires school boards to develop a procedure that allows for students to be exempted, at the request of their parents/guardians, from instruction related to the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations found in Strand D of the Ontario Curriculum: Health and Physical Education, Grades 1-8, 2019 (the “Curriculum”). On average, more than 14,000 meals and snacks were served each week, over 530,000 throughout the year, with weekly food orders reaching approximately $17,500.We are grateful to the dedicated staff who make these programs possible, and to The Food Sharing Project for continuing to support student well-being across LDSB.
