summer vacation

Dear Centreville Families,

As we head into the last week of the school year, students are busy completing projects and consolidating learning, and we are so proud of all they have accomplished this year. June is a great time to celebrate all of the learning and successes of the year, and start to look back on how much our students have grown. Our staff are completing June report cards to reflect this growth. These reports will go home with students on Wednesday June 24th.

We know that change is the one constant in life and that change often brings growth and new opportunities. As we near the end of the school year there are some staff changes to share with our school community.

 FAREWELL

We have had some staff who have joined us this year at Centreville PS in a long-term occasional and permanent teaching positions or support staff roles this year. Best wishes to Ms. Fraser, Mrs. Darton, Ms. Nicole and Mrs. Howes, as they move on to their next adventure and thank them for their positive contributions to our school.

WELCOME

We will welcome Ms. Semark to Centreville as well as a new staff member TBD as a planning time teacher.

Here is our tentative school organization for September 2026

Gr. 1/2 Heidi Tyler

Gr. 2/3 Kate Minielly

Gr. 4/5 MaryLynn Kimmett/Karla Tynski

Gr. 5/6 Katie Semark

Gr. 7/8 Ben Clapp

We also would like to send a huge thank you to Centreville SAC members for another terrific Fun Fair and all their efforts fundraising this year for Centreville School. It was lovely to see so many families attending and making a tremendous contribution to support the well-being and improvements of Centreville school. We appreciate everyone's generosity. Also, Centreville PS would like to acknowledge the following parent volunteers for all of the "extras" they provide for us: Megan McFarland who is the master of getting school donations and sourced our outside yard equipment for free, Jessie Eamons, who organized our Hot lunches this school year and Karrah Wemp, who always kept our front planter filled and our gardens beautiful. Your time is valuable and we appreciate that you choose to spend some of it on us!

Finally, a reminder that June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, an opportunity to learn about the unique cultures, traditions and experiences of First Nations, Inuit and Métis. It's a time to honour the stories, achievements and resilience of Indigenous Peoples, who have lived on this land since time immemorial and whose presence continues to impact the evolving Canada. June also is the month the world celebrates Pride Month, recognizing the 2SLGBTQ+ community and acknowledging the social justice work that still needs to be done. Students and families will see flags to acknowledge these events this month as our ongoing commitment to inclusion and belonging.

Wishing all of our families a wonderful summer break. I look forward to welcoming you back to school in September.

Yours In Education,

Jennifer Osborne, Principal

Kindergarten registrations

Kindergarten Registration and Out of Boundary Registration

Do you have a child ready to start Kindergarten this September? If your child is four- or five-years-old by the end of December (2026), now is the time to register. For more information, please visit limestone.on.ca/kindergarten.

In Limestone, students may be permitted to attend any school within the board when there is available student space, upon submission and approval of the proper application. Please note only one application per student can be processed; please do not submit more than one application for multiple school locations. If multiple applications are submitted, families will be contacted to select which school application they would like processed, and all other applications will be removed from the system.

The board is not responsible for the provision of any transportation for students outside of their regular school boundary area. This applies to both students within Limestone’s geographic boundaries (out of boundary), and students who live outside of those boundaries (out of district).

Words Matter

We are thrilled to announce that our school has been chosen to participate in the Words Matter Campaign this year! This year-long initiative is designed to reduce the incidence and impact of harmful and discriminatory language in our school community. Our goal is to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone and gain tools to support your children in using words that uplift and empower.

The Words Matter Project seeks to address the nuances of language that can perpetuate harm, bias, and discrimination. By fostering open dialogue and education about the power of words, we aim to create a culture of mindful communication. This campaign will involve not just students and staff but also parents and caregivers, emphasizing the crucial role that families play in promoting respectful interactions. Look for information to be sent in our newsletters bi-weekly.

Physical and Health Education Curriculum

The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) is committed to delivering health and physical education to all elementary students, using the Ontario Curriculum: Health and Physical Education, Grades 1-8, 2019. LDSB is committed to building positive school cultures that support student achievement and wellness. The Exemption from Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction, Grades 1 to 8 Procedure (the “Procedure”) was developed in response to the Ontario Ministry of Education’s Policy/Program Memorandum (PPM) No. 162 which requires school boards to develop a procedure that allows for students to be exempted, at the request of their parents/guardians, from instruction related to the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations found in Strand D of the Ontario Curriculum: Health and Physical Education, Grades 1-8, 2019 (the “Curriculum”). Classroom teachers will inform families of the timeline for delivering Strand D Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction, and an exemption letter will be provided. Below is a link to the expectations by grade.

Centreville PS continues to offer our families a new secure portal to complete permissions and payments online. With School-Day: Permissions & Payments, you will be able to complete permission forms and payments from any web browser using your SmartPhone, tablet, laptop or desktop.

Through this online portal, you will be able to pay for items such as:

· Field trips

· Sporting events

· Student cards/athletic fees

· Hot lunch (where applicable)

The new easy-to-use portal will remove the risks associated with sending money to school with students, the frustration of lost or missing permission forms, and significantly reduce the amount of paper our school consumes.

If you have not yet signed up for School day, please call the main office and a secure code information sheet will be sent home with your child. Use the instructions in it to sign up for a School-Day account at www.school-day.com and connect to your child’s events and activities.

medical forms

Prevalent Medical Plan of Care

This message is intended for the families of students with prevalent medical conditions where documentation is needed by the school:

Parents/guardians of returning students with known medical plans of care will receive a package with a medical plan of care to update with the student verification packages. These need to be updated and returned as soon as possible.

If you are new to the school, or do not receive the package, to help us gather important medical information about your child, we ask that you select the correct Plan of Care form from the link below, complete it and return it to the school as soon as possible. You may request a printed copy as well. If you require us to administer daily medication, you will also need to complete the necessary paperwork for us to be able to do this. Completed forms can be printed and sent in with students or scanned and emailed to ctrvl@limestone.on.ca

Daily medication will need to be dropped off by a parent/caregiver at the school and will be stored at the office. Students cannot carry medications in their backpack, at any time. You may drop of labelled medication this week.

**Be sure to also include the supplementary forms if medication may need to be administered by school staff.

Health and safety of our students is our first priority. Thank you for helping us stay informed on your child's medical conditions and Plan of Care.

Allergen Awareness - Nut-Free School

Thank you for packing nut-free snacks! Please communicate with teachers before sending any treats in for your student's class.

Tri-Board Transportation

If your child rides the bus, Tri-board should have sent confirmation of your child's route. If you were on a bus last year at the end of the year, you are set up for busing this year. You can also sign up for bus status alert emails at the Tri-board website to ensure you are notified of any late runs or cancelled routes.

If you are new to Centreville Public School and require transportation, you will need to fill out the bus form at https://triboard.ca

CPIC

If you intend to volunteer in any capacity this school year, please complete a CPIC via the OPP website. If we have a current CPIC on file with a date within 2 years, an offence declaration can be filled out at the beginning of the school year. Please see Mrs. Jodi in the main office. CPICS are free of charge if you are volunteering with the school.

STUDENT ACCIDENT PROTECTION PROGRAM

The Limestone District School Board makes available Student Accident Insurance. Various affordable plans are available. Parents may enroll on-line at www.insuremykids.com or by completing the Student Accident Insurance package and mailing it directly to the company. Please note: participation in extra-curricular athletic activities requires parent signature verifying student accident insurance coverage through some insurance carrier.

STUDENT AGENDAS

Agendas are provided by Centreville Public School to students in grades JK-3 to help students stay organized and instill a sense of responsibility. The expectation is that students record their homework and important events in their agenda on a daily basis. Each night parents should confirm that homework has been completed by signing. Teachers will check the agendas for correspondence from parents.

How Do I Report An Absence

Please use the Safe Arrival system to report your child's absence; do not call the school to report an absence. If your child is going to be absent from learning, please ensure you use the Safe Arrival system to report the absence. If your child will be late, please report a full day absence and then we will sign them in when they arrive. You cannot indicate a half day absence.

How to report your absence:

1. Toll-free telephone

  • Call 1-855-257-9349 toll-free to report an absence using the automated phone system.

2. School Messenger App

  • Use your mobile device to download and install the free SchoolMessenger blue app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, the SchoolMessenger website portal, or from within the LDSB mobile app.
  • The first time you use the app, you must select Sign Up to create your account. Please ensure you use the same email address your student’s school has on file. If you do not use that same email address, you will not be able to create an account, or may not be able to see the "Attendance" option. You may have already created an account when we introduced the Communicate broadcast system.
  • Select Attendance, then select Report an Absence and follow the prompts.

3. SchoolMessenger SafeArrival Website Portal
